New Rules & More Choice in Organic Beers

Great article on new federal guidelines for the use of organic ingredients in US Beers.

"Northwest farmers have begun planting new varieties of the key flavor ingredient in beer and working with researchers to develop ways to grow the crop without pesticides. The movement stems from a federal decision last year requiring brewers who label their beer as organic to use organic hops beginning in 2013."

American Craft Beer Week Celebrations

It looks like all 50 states are planning celebrations for American Craft Beer Week! 

"For the first time in its six year history, American Craft Beer Week will see official events hosted in all 50 states, making it the largest-ever celebration of U.S. craft brewers. From May 16-22,  new beer lovers and seasoned enthusiasts will raise glasses of their favorite IPA, amber, stout—or anything in-between—to honor the more than 1,700 small and independent craft brewers responsible for the vibrant American craft beer scene."

Happy Texas Brew Fest and National Homebrew Day!

The Texas Brew Fest will be celebrated this Saturday, May 7 down in Humble.  If you're in the Houston area, we encourage you to show your support of our great Texas brewers and national craft beer.   25% of the net proceeds from the event will go to the Houston Food Bank.  Great beers, great cause.

The first Saturday of May (May 7 this year) is also National Homebrew Day.  The Homebrewers' Association celebrates the occasion each year with the AHA Big Brew.  The Big Brew encourages homebrewers around the country and around the world to invite family and friends to their brewing site to celebrate the holiday. Everyone is encouraged to "help out with the brew, enjoy the fun and join in on a world-wide toast at noon Central time."  The AHA website has suggestions for finding an AHA Big Brew registered site, registering your own site, and recipes.
